Features and problems of it projects in Ukraine

Projects management in general and IT projects management especially is rather a young field of research in Ukraine. At the same time IT projects in Ukraine occupy a leading position among the total number of projects. The aim of this article is to analyze the main features and reasons why IT projects in general and Ukrainein in particular, experience problems and a large number of failures. We witness a growing development of IT sphere, intense implementation of the project approach in this area, nevertheless the proportion of successful projects is about 1/3 and has been stable for many years. Therefore, IT projects management, defining their characteristics and problems, requires serious attention and analysis.According to the results of numerous investigations, IT projects have the highest level of uncertainty and risk, one of six IT projects on statistics becomes a "black swan" that in disadvantaged circumstances is able to lead the company (customer) to complete bankruptcy. However, at least threequarters of troubled projects can be preserved. If they can be led out of the critical state, it is logical to assume that they cannot be led to such a state. Thus, the main causes of the IT projects problems include: a high degree of uncertainty; constant changes throughout the project; the difficulty of agreeing expectations and perceptions of various stakeholders; the lack of knowledge and experience of project manager (project team); the lack of proper systematic approach to projects management or direct disregard of the principles and methodologies of projects management, which leads to errors in data collection and analysis, planning, risks management, communication organization in the project, conduct project documentation and making management decision. Everything mentioned above demonstrates the urgency for flexible system approach to IT projects management as the most uncertain and risky, using the latest methodologies and knowledge in projects management
