Abstract

The role of information as a resource for human activity is constantly growing, leading to changes in almost all areas of society. Printing industry has also undergone these changes. Currently printing and publishing industries widely use information technologies. Any enterprise requires information to analyze urgent problems, make decisions, monitor operations and create new products or services. The process of collecting, processing, storage and transmission of various information as data, organized on the basis of modern computer systems and machines, networking technologies, data and knowledge banks, various system, applied and problemoriented software is an integral part of information technology. To effectively manage and reduce the time of manufacturing and expenditures the information system of an enterprise must be connected with all participants of production process. The complexity and variety of technologies, the necessity to produce a large range of products need information coordination and management. Currently, the activity, based on information, constitutes a significant part of a company’s activity. Only an integrated, modern information system can provide necessary cooperation for the entire enterprise. The modern market of printing services is developing; new technologies and the scope of their application emerge. To withstand a competition and ensure effective management printing companies have to keep up with modern trends of printing industry. This is possible due to the use of modern information technology. The analysis shows that the implementation of information technology at all levels of management and production enables efficient use of company’s resources thus increasing its competitiveness. But to achieve this goal existing equipment and control systems in general are to be modernized. The use of the concept of Digital Workflow and CALS-technology allows to implement modern information technologies in production. The application of information technologies in printing and publishing industries need further research
