The analysis of soil pollution around a city landfill of Zhytomyr

Iryna Kotsіuba

Abstract

Introduction. Landfills of household solid waste are considered as the objects of ecological risk by the level of harmful effect on the environment, especially on the soil. They are potential sources of environmental pollution in case of violation of norms and rules of their operation. The purpose of scientific work. The objective of this research is to identify the influence of solid waste landfill on the environment, in particular, on the soil around Zhytomyr landfill. Formulation of the problem. The study is the analysis of the impact of functioning landfill of solid waste on the soil around it and will be used to develop simulation and prediction of the impact of such an object on the environment. The main material. The article presents the results of the research on the use of the impact of landfills on environmental objects, in particular on the soil around Zhytomyr city landfill. Areas of contaminated soil around the landfill are investigated. The influence of seepage waters of landfills on water bodies, the conditions of being of solid waste in the studied landfill, the impact of operating landfills on soils near the landfill are analyzed. Conclusions. Most dangerous is the fact that near these landfills agricultural land and vegetable gardens are located. This adversely affects the health of people who consume products grown on these plots. It is very important to identify the zones of most polluted grounds to ban their use in agriculture and take measures to improve the quality of soil in the damaged areas
